This week I read The Song of Achilles I’ve been waiting a long time to read this very popular book and have to say I had very high expectations. And this book surpassed all of them! Much like We Are Liars which I read last week it had a unique writing style that caught me off guard at first. But were We Are Liars failed to live up it’s style The Song of Achilles thrived on it. Once again I shall warn you that you must be in a good place with your mental health to read this book, as it explores some dark themes, but does so masterfully. This book is the history of Achilles and ancient greek demi god and his convidont Patroclus. It focuses largely on the relationship between these two characters as they grow up together. The blunt writing style somehow makes you understand the characters deeper. You are not overwhelmed with descriptions but every word feels mindful and has power to it. I would highly recommend this book to anyone regardless of what they usually read because it touches on so many genres. History, romance, mystical elements, and more. 9.3/10
“We were like gods at the dawning of the world, & our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but the other.”
(one of my favourite quotes ever)

Hi Alice, I’m so glad that the book surpassed your expectations! I have been a fan of Greek Mythology since I was young, so this book sounds very appealing. I have to say that I was always intrigued by the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus and the possibilities that could be explored further by literature written about them.
