For my second to last book, I read At The Water’s Edge by Sara Gruen. Is set during World War Two largely in New York and Scotland. It focuses on three young adults, two men, and a woman, who go to Scotland to find the Lochness Monster. Despite the reference to the Lochness Monster it is not a mystical book, instead, it focuses on the realities of life during the war. The best part of the book is the setting and all the Scottish characters. There is something fun about reading the Scottish slang and hearing the descriptions of the Scottish countryside. The Scottish background characters are also fun. The downfall to me was the main characters they were harsh and unlikely and didn’t develop over the course of the book. Overall this book was not my favourite. 6.5/10

“It seems there’s nothing so good or pure it can’t be taken without a moment’s notice.
